MAC and Castle Rock Recreation Center
One of the newer additions to the ever-growing town of Castle Rock is the Miller Activity Complex. Named after Phillip S. Miller, the facility reflects the things that townsman Miller cherished the most: Children and Sports Activities. Whether you’re stuck indoors and need some winter activities, or soaking up the sun in the middle of July, the MAC has everything you need to treat your kiddos to a great time.
Available inside the MAC is a swimming facility, batting cages, turf fields, a small trampoline park, and an indoor play gym. Outside, between the miles of hiking and mountain bike trails, the MAC is home to Castle Rock’s two-hundred step incline, a high rise ropes course, and outdoor turf fields.
Castle Rock’s original recreation center is just across the highway. A huge hit with the kids, the 84,000 square foot rec center has indoor swimming facilities and an attached outdoor playground. They also offer a wide variety of classes for children of all ages, birthday parties, and indoor facility rentals.
Castle Rock Zip Line Tours
Immersed in the 270 square feet of foothills at Phillip S. Miller Park, are high rise platforms and miles of zip lines. Castle Rock Zipline Tours operates out of the MAC at Phillip S. Miller Park and allows kids and adults of all ages, to experience the rush of flying through the air. Harnesses and helmets are provided with your reservation, and personal tour guides lead you from one platform to the next on this exciting family adventure. Parks, Hiking Trails, and Open Spaces
With more than 20 developed parks, about 5,800 acres of open space and 75 miles of trails linking Castle Rock with adjacent Douglas County areas, it’s a no-brainer that one of our favorite kid-friendly activities utilizes the town’s recreational amenities. Hiking around one of the many treated trails in Castle Rock is an adventure for everyone in the family. Pack some lunches and lace up those running shoes. A picnic is a perfect finish to a hike at Rock Park.
From the top of the town’s legendary plateau, lunch can be enjoyed overlooking the train below and lots of little cars and people. The developed parks in the area are also great places to blow off some steam and have a mid-day picnic. The innovative playground at the MAC is a hit with kids of all ages. Whether it’s teeter-tottering on bungee cord swings, or dangling like monkeys from a giant jungle gym dome, this state-of-the-art park is an experience for the whole family.
Phillip S. Miller Library
The library is a great place to take the kids for fun and educational activities. Their full calendar of events is sure to accommodate everyone from infants to senior citizens. With more than a dozen weekly story times, youth science programs, LEGO and writing programs, and even periodic special literature-inspired events, the library has everything you need to make for a fun and exciting day. Adults and teens can get in on the action, too, whether they enjoy book clubs, author visits, current events, or are looking for volunteer opportunities.
Cherokee Ranch and Castle
This activity is fun for the older kids in your life. Imagine living in a real castle, right here in our town! Well, Tweet Kimball did, and now you can tour her 19th-century castle, and learn the rich history behind early settlers that first came to Castle Rock. Tours are reservation-based, so be sure to call ahead and reserve your spot. Cherokee Ranch and Castle is also home to specialty events all year long.
